Our team

Angela McDearmid, Optometrist

Born in Hartlepool, practice owner Angela graduated from Bradford University in 1977 with a First Class Honours Degree in Optometry. Angela has dedicated her entire working life to providing Optometry services to the people of Redcar and the surrounding area. She has supervised 4 pre–registered optometrists in their post graduate year, helping them on their way to becoming fully qualified and registered Optometrists.

As well as her wealth of experience, Angela is highly committed to ensuring the practice remains at the forefront of providing high quality eye examinations. In 2007 Angela made a significant technological investment with Campbell & McDearmid Optometrists becoming the first practice in the area to offer the revolutionary Optomap retinal examination, which has since benefitted thousands of patients. The practice was also the first in the area to invest in an ‘M pod’ for measuring macular pigment density – a key diagnostic tool in the identification of possible future eye health issues.

As well as being registered with the General Optical Council, Angela is also a foundation fellow of the British College of Optometrists, and a member of the Association of Optometrists, British Contact Lens Association and the North East Contact Lens Society. She is married to Neil and has 2 daughters. Away from the business, her main interests are horses and dancing.

Faye McDearmid, Optometrist

Highly enthusiastic Optometrist Faye joined the team in 2008 after gaining a First Class Honours degree in Optometry from the University of Bradford. She has received academic awards for her achievements in the fields of Contact Lenses, Professional Studies, Binocular Vision and General Optometric Practice. She has a passion for outstanding customer service and children’s eyecare.

In 2010 Faye was appointed as a Specialist Optometrist at James Cook University Hospital where she works for part of each week and has previously lectured undergraduate optometry students in the areas of contact lenses, children’s eye examinations, binocular vision and general optometry at Bradford University.

Faye has been invited to speak about eye care at several prestigious optical conferences around the UK and has had articles published in several popular optometric journals. She is also registered with the GOC, and holds memberships with the British College of Optometrists, the Association of Optometrists and the British Contact Lens Association. Faye can be found on the Social Network site Twitter where she is an active tweeter about all things eyes under the name @SpecsLady_Faye.

Outside of work, Faye is a keen equestrian and has a huge love for her horses and guinea pig. She can often be seen in her wellies sporting a wide smile. Faye met husband Tim whilst studying at Bradford University and they have been married since 2013.

Tim Boyling, Optometrist

Tim joined the team in 2008 after completing his Optometry degree at the University of Bradford prior to which he enjoyed two gap years. His training year was spent in his home county of Shropshire before he moved to the North-East.

Tim works in practice on Fridays but spends the majority of his week working for Angela’s brother Michael in his Hartlepool practice. In 2009 Tim was appointed as a Specialist Optometrist at James Cook University Hospital where he works one day per week.

In addition to providing full optometric services in the practice, Tim also provides home-visits for patients requiring eye care who are unable to make it out of their homes.

Tim is registered with the GOC, and also holds memberships with the British College of Optometrists and Association of Optometrists.

Being a self-confessed petrol-head, Tim loves all things cars and mechanics. In 2014 he achieved a life-long ambition of restoring and rebuilding a Kitcar. On the sporting front, Tim plays for Redcar squash club, but he also has a big soft spot for his and Faye’s guinea pig Tuxy (named after his first car!).
